Working Models
I have been interested in model making since 8th standard. I had more interest in making working models rather than still, lifeless ones. The first model I ever made was that of a crane with a simple DC motor for lifting small and light objects. Ever since then I have been improving on the models.
In the 10th grade, I had made a moving car. It had a single DC motor inside it geared to the rear wheel shaft to reduce the shaft speed and increase the torque. Five enameled wires (from an old, damaged transformer) ran from the control board to the car. It even had bulbs on both the front and back side and would look beautiful in the dark.
Then followed a series of models like hanging trolley which went over a metal wire from one end to the other drawing electricity from the wire, electric train with a track exchange, and many more. Very exciting stuff at that age! :-)
In the vacation of the first year of diploma, i.e. in May 1996, me and my friend Shriram made a model that was a great achievement at that time and remains so even now. It was the model of Sun, Moon and Earth system, a really huge working model showing the three celestial bodies in motion. After its success I made a somewhat challenging model after a lot of experimentation in October 2001. The original idea was due to my friend Shailesh Sansare, it was the model of the Total Solar Eclipse. It shows how a real Total Solar Eclipse (TSE) would look like. There will not be enough words to explain the beauty a real TSE and so is the case with this model. One has to see the eclipse shown with this model to appreciate it.
